Privacy, plainly
Drenin is the business name used by Reed Miller, a sole proprietor and independent web designer in California. This notice covers this website and the emails you send me through it. "I" and "me" mean Reed Miller.
The short version
- CookiesThis website sets no cookies of its own. The spam check on the contact form is run by Cloudflare (see the contact form).
- Analytics and trackersNone. No analytics, advertising pixels, session recording or social-media widgets.
- Other companies' codeOne: the home page, which includes the contact form, loads Cloudflare Turnstile, a spam check from Cloudflare. Fonts, images and every other script are served from this website itself.
- Contact formYour message goes to my inbox through this website's own form handler, run by Cloudflare, and is delivered by Resend, an email service. Nothing is stored on this website.
- AI toolsAI assistants may help organize correspondence, summarize conversations, and prepare responses. I remain responsible for Drenin's customer communications, and outgoing messages currently require my authorization (see AI tools for email).
- Selling or sharingI do not sell your information or share it for advertising.
When you use the contact form
The form asks for your business name and email address, and optionally your name, your current website, the package and extras you are asking about, how ready you are, and a message. It has no fields for passwords, payment details or other sensitive information.
When you press Send, three things happen:
- A spam check. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a person, not a program, is sending the form. To do that, Cloudflare processes technical signals such as your IP address and browser details. Cloudflare says it uses these signals only to detect and block bots, "not to identify, profile or target any individuals" (Cloudflare's Turnstile privacy addendum).
- The form handler. A small program on Cloudflare, the company that hosts this website, checks your answers and passes them on. It does not save them. To slow down abuse, it keeps your IP address and the time of your request in its working memory for a short time, usually minutes, so it can refuse a burst of repeated submissions; this is never written to storage and is gone when that running copy of the handler stops. Each message also carries a random ID so that a retry cannot send it twice; Resend keeps that ID for 24 hours.
- Delivery. Resend, an email delivery service, sends your answers to my inbox as one email, with your address as the reply address. Resend keeps a copy of the message and its delivery records for 30 days and then deletes them (Resend's privacy policy).
The page says "Sent" once Resend has accepted your message for delivery. That is not proof it has reached my inbox: email can still be delayed or filtered. If Resend does not accept it, the page says your message was not sent. If you do not hear back, please write to reed@drenin.com directly.
When you email me
If you send the contact form, or write to reed@drenin.com directly, I receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write, including any links or files you attach to an email.
I use it to reply to you and, if we work together, to prepare a written scope and price and keep a record of the project. I do not add you to a mailing list.
My email is provided by Google Workspace, which stores and processes messages for me as my email provider.
I keep inquiry and client information only as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your inquiry, provide services, maintain appropriate business records, and meet applicable accounting and legal obligations.
AI tools for email
I remain responsible for Drenin's customer communications and business decisions. AI assistants may help organize correspondence, summarize conversations, and prepare responses. Outgoing messages currently require my authorization.
The assistants I currently use are Claude (by Anthropic) and sometimes ChatGPT (by OpenAI). When I use them, the messages involved, including your name, email address and what you wrote, are processed by that provider under its own terms and privacy policy (Anthropic's privacy policy, OpenAI's privacy policy).
When you visit
This website is made of static files, plus the contact form handler described above, and is hosted by Cloudflare. To deliver and protect the site, Cloudflare may process the ordinary request, security and diagnostic information every web request carries, such as your IP address, your browser type and the page requested. Cloudflare handles that information under Cloudflare's privacy policy.
I do not keep visitor logs myself, and no Cloudflare Web Analytics is switched on for this site.
On your device
One thing is stored in your own browser: the Clarity demo on the home page remembers where you left its dial and which customer you picked, under the local storage key drenin.clarity, so it looks the same if you return. It stays on your device, is never sent to me, and you can remove it by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
The example sites linked from this website open at drenin-previews.pages.dev, a separate Drenin address also hosted by Cloudflare. They set no cookies and run no analytics. One of them may keep its own settings for the current browser tab only (session storage), which is cleared when you close the tab and is never sent to me.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
This website does not track visitors over time or across other websites and does not let anyone else do so. It responds to a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal the same way it treats every visit: nothing is tracked either way.
Your requests
You can ask me what emails I hold from you, ask me to correct something, or ask me to delete our correspondence, by writing to reed@drenin.com. If you became a client, some records may need to be kept for tax or contract reasons, and I will tell you which.
I aim to respond to these requests within 30 days.
Keeping it safe
Emails live in my email account and project files on my own devices. I do not ask for passwords, payment card numbers or other sensitive information by email; please do not send them.
Websites I build for clients
This notice covers this website only. A website I build for a business has its own privacy notice, which that business is responsible for. Where a project includes one, I help draft it from how that site actually works.
Changes and contact
If this notice changes, the effective date at the top changes with it, and material changes will be described here. Questions go to Reed Miller at reed@drenin.com.
